Blog Post #1: The Five BEST Sources of News and Information

With media consumption being such an immense part of the daily lives for numerous individuals in today's society, there are many media outlets one can visit consistently for informative, entertaining or any form of news that they may be searching for. Whether it's news about sports, technology, music, art, or fashion, the media presents a lot of opportunities for one to consume news. Me being the sports fanatic I am, sports media outlets are ones I heavily rely on, however there are also a few other ones that are not sports related that I constantly count on as well. Here are my top 5 sources of news and information along with my explained reasoning for why it's in my top 5 and why more people should start incorporating these sources into their arsenal of places to get news.

1. ESPN: Arguably, the heart of sports news and updates, ESPN is a news source that I visit daily in order to stay up to date with the latest trends happening in the sports world. The unique quality that ESPN possesses unlike other media sources is that they have a variety of ways that one can access the information from this source. They have an ESPN app that allows for individuals to easily access the information on their phone, laptop, tablet, etc. Here, people can retrieve news articles, stats, standings, and more which is a very convenient method for those who enjoy reading and interpreting text. There are also numerous television channels such as ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU, ESPN News, and more that anyone can tune into at anytime with a cable subscription. These channels are fantastic for those who may not be the biggest readers and instead prefer consuming their news visually. Lastly, perhaps the most fascinating quality about ESPN is that they offer a service called ESPN+ which is a monthly subscription that costs $6.99 a month where individuals can receive access to exclusive ESPN stories and content. Typically, the stories on ESPN+ offer a more in depth discussion and viewpoint of a certain headline in sports (i.e. how a certain major NBA signing will affect the entire league as a whole). Meanwhile, the content includes access to watching a variety of amateur, collegiate, and professional sports with the luxury of being able to flip back and forth between various games. This is a stupendous service for those who enjoy a mixture of consuming news by reading or seeing the content.

2. NBA: The National Basketball Association, more widely known as the NBA, is the premier men's basketball league in the world. I constantly enjoy discovering content from their website because watching NBA games and staying up to date with the latest news, stats, standings, and results in the league are great passions of mine. Because the NBA has its own site, they are able to upload exclusive NBA related content that cannot be found on other news platforms, therefore it is the premier source for all things NBA related. Furthermore, there are many NBA contributors who publish articles on the site in which they provide in-depth analysis on various basketball related topics. The information is extremely accessible and all the top stories are categorized in a section from newest to oldest stories. During the season and even oftentimes during the off-season, the website will post many Top 10 play segments that are very thrilling to watch and are immensely well-liked by NBA fans Growing up, I spent the majority of my time on the computer visiting NBA.com and researching players and a variety of historical sites. The information was so clear and accessible for someone like my 8 year old self which really goes to show just how crisp and well put together the website is.

3. WDW News: Walt Disney World News also known as WDW News, is the premier source I use to stay up to date with the latest news, announcements, and promotions occurring at Walt Disney World Resort located in Central Florida. There are numerous reasons for why I greatly admire using this news source, but perhaps one of the more notable reasons is the immense amount of photos and videos that are incorporated into the site as a whole. The site is not just useful for information about Walt Disney World, but it also has many links to other Disney blogs and merchandise, as well as an entire FAQs section about areas like park hours, park ticket/resort pricing, and much more. All the blogs on this news source go in full depth about the current news happen at Disney World and feature upcoming key dates and quotes in their blog posts that helps make them more intriguing to read. The magic is constantly existent on this site and is perfect for any mega Disney fan like myself or even for someone who is trying to plan a vacation to Disney World.

4. Bleacher Report: Oftentimes, news sources are known to have a certain quality about them that either helps gain or lose recognition. In the case of Bleacher Report, they are the prime example of a news source that constantly knows how to please its consumers like me and develop intriguing content on a consistent basis. Bleacher Report is known for being one of the premier news sources to acquire all forms of sports news. The Bleacher Report app has access to many stories (both opinionated and informative ones) and also has a lot of articles that include things like game by game/season predictions as well as fantasy tips. Throughout the past couple of years however, Bleacher Report has taken a massive leap in terms of its presence on social media and using the popularity of it to their advantage. Their Instagram account has over 16.3 million followers as of August of 2021 and is known for posting a proficient mixture of informative and humorous content. As a major sports fan, I strongly admire Bleacher Report's method of having fun with their platform because sports in general are meant to be an escape from the real world and a chance for those apart of the sports world to unleash their minds and have fun. Whether its as a player, coach, or in my case as a fan and aspiring sports broadcaster, being able to visit a news source like Bleacher Report is a tremendous way to get sports news in a unique and entertaining way. The news source itself is also known for uploading other forms of media content such as a couple of short video series like Game of Zones and Gridiron Heights which were shows that I would always watch whenever I came home from school growing up. Bleacher Report was also the news source that actually inspired me to launch my podcast "The Sports Student." They have a podcast called "Through The Wire" which is known as "the ultimate NBA fan podcast." Ultimately, it is the variety and creativity of Bleacher Report that makes it one of my go to news sources that I visit on a consistent basis.

5. YouTube: While there are numerous news sources out there that offer a wide variety of content that is easily accessible to its users, there is no easier place for me to acquire information than YouTube. The platform itself is set up crisp and clear and features many videos that are acquired from other news sources like ABC, ESPN, CNBC, and more. In addition, the tools offered on YouTube makes it a source that can be viewed repeatedly by a user they can never get bored from the content that is produced on it. Certain aspects like subscriptions where one can stay up to date with their favorite YouTube channels whether its a vlogger or more of a news channel like FOX or ABC is one of if not the first thing that a user can see when they visit the platform. Unlike other news sources where someone often has to open the app or turn on the TV to view it and acquire their information, having something like post notifications for the YouTube channels that one is subscribed to sends a direct reminder to their phone/tablet that allows them to stay up to date with whatever news channels they are subscribed to. Here are a few YouTube channels that I am subscribed to that I use on a daily basis to acquire news and information.

                    1. ESPN
                    2. NBA
                    3. NFL
                    4. Good Morning America
                    5. NBC
